Settling in Kolkata

Apparently everytime I come to India, it requires adjusting. A so-called "India effect" my brother and I have always experienced. Mine was apparently on Sunday. Now I'm already adjusted to my accommodation, which now seems okay and functioning. I also got the shower working for the first time! Breakfast was included after the boys checked it with there boss ;) I've had toast, butter, jam, a boiled egg, juice, tea, water and a banana for breakfast but I could order something else but that's seemed fine. And the Inn wasn't owned by the CRG office person, apparently there's just loads of people with the same name! The guys at the Inn don't speak perfect english, so sometimes I don't also get everything they say.

The research institute is quite nice. They have a great library will all sorts of interesting books of the UN, women, Islam, different parts of India, environment, peace, you name it. I could just spend my weeks reading them but as I'm a slow reader, no chance :( I have to give a presentation about the things I've researched on the 12th Jan. I'm a bit nervous about it, cos don't know how much things I've gathered by then, but they told me not to take it too seriously. Then again, I always take things like that seriously! Yesterday I just went home from the institute and kept reading papers in the evening. I don't really feel like wondering off alone in the dark here, so I've been a good student/researcher and just studied even in the evening. Once in my life work is not disturbing, so I can focus on this 100 %.

I think I'll start doing things here. Below are some photos.

Sunday: apparently christmas had came to the City Centre mall..

  1. That toilet looks bit dodgy, one too many taps, generally seems they must have got a discount on taps, have you counted how many there are ;).

So what's your presentation supposed to cover, you might have told me but probably wasn't listening. So who are the poor souls who have to listen to you.

  2. Nice shirts you got, can't wait to see you wearing them. Princess style to my eyes :)

Today the dentist pre-fixed my tooth. Asked if I have an access to a dentist while travelling. I wouldn't think I need but must check that it is included in my travel insurance.

  3. Great I just erased the message I wrote. Well here we go again... You can notice from the comments whose my husband and whose my brother ;)

Yeah the toilet was one which required adjusting too, but now I'm used to it. No infections yet, haha. No really, it's okay.

The taps have different functions. The middle ones are used to open hot and cold taps, the top one is then to open the shower and the bottom one to run water e.g. into a bucket. But it was a bit tricky that's why it took me a while to get it working :)

I'll be giving my presentation on the impacts of climate change to future migration in India. These people from this institute will be listening and some from their member organisations, 15-20 all together. Btw, the press notice of that Sitra seminar where I was talking and mentioned to you can be found at: http://www.sitra.fi/fi/Ajankohtaista/tehokas_materiaalikierto_luonnonvarapolitiikan_haasteena.htm That was maybe more nerve-wracking than this one will be. I think.. ;)

    Lots of love! XX
